“So don't bother correcting mockers; they will only hate you. But correct the wise, and they will love you.”
Have you ever been trying to do something new—learning a new sport, trying to bake something for the first time, learning to read—and it's not going very well? Figuring out how to do a new thing can be difficult. But, this verse talks about how you should act towards people who are trying to help you.
If you are a mocker—like if you yell at someone who is trying to help you, or you throw down the bat and stomp off, or slam the book shut—you are not being wise!
If you are wise, even when it is hard and you are very frustrated, you will keep on going and trying. Instead of being angry at the person, you will love them and thank them for helping you.
So, today, if you have to learn something new, try your best to be wise. Let's ask the Lord for help!
Dear Lord, Learning new things can be very frustrating! Please help me do my best and to appreciate the help people give me. Please help me be wise today, with your help. In Jesus' name, Amen.
