“The Lord formed me from the beginning, before he created anything else.”
You may have learned that God made the whole earth and that he made you, but did you know what the very first thing he created was? Wisdom was the first thing the Lord made. Wisdom tells us how she was born before the oceans, the mountains, fields, and even the heavens. This chapter is written to us as a note from Wisdom.
When God made the world, Wisdom was “his constant delight, rejoicing always in his presence.” (8:30). We can tell God made the world with wisdom when we see how complicated our bodies are, or when we look up at the stars and see how enormous the sky is. Wisdom says “Joyful are those who listen to me, watching for me daily at my gates...” (8:34) So, we can learn that it is good for us to daily learn from the Bible. It will teach us how to live and how to be wise.
Dear Lord, Thank you for making me and for making wisdom, too. Please help me to learn about you every day and to be more wise. Thank you for the joy you will give me as I live out the wisdom you teach me. In Jesus' name, Amen.
