Proverbs 7:2, 4-5a
Obey my commands and live! Guard my instructions as you guard your own eyes.”
Love wisdom like a sister, make insight a beloved member of your family. Let them protect you from an affair with an immoral woman, from listening to the flattery of a promiscuous woman.”
This whole chapter talks about one topic. That must mean that whatever it says is very important!
This chapter teaches that there are special ways that only a husband and wife should show love to each other. It warns you about showing love to other people in that way.
When you look up at the sun, do you ever put your hand over your eyes to guard them from the brightness? You need to guard your eyes in the same way by being very careful what you look at.
Sometime, there may be pictures of people with no or not very many clothes on. Looking at people in this way is not good for your eyes or your heart, and it may take you down a path these Proverbs warn you about. If you glance at something like this or your friends say “Come, look!”, Run the other way! Turn your head away. Say “No thanks.” Take a quick bathroom break or get away from the situation.
Just like the sun can blind you if you look at it too long, looking at pictures or images of things you shouldn't will take you down a bad and dark path.
But, 1 Corinthians 10:13 in the New Testament gives us this promise “...And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure (be strong and not do the bad thing.)
Temptation means really really really wanting to do something that's wrong. You may want to look more, but stop!! Ask God for help and to show you the way out.
Dear Lord, when I am tempted to do wrong, please help me stop. Please help me be careful about what I look at and see. Please help me to love you with all my heart, soul, mind, and strength. In Jesus' name, Amen.
