Proverbs 22:19 NLT
“I am teaching you today—yes you—so you will trust in the Lord.”
Pretend it is after supper. You ate a good supper, and you ask for dessert. You eat a cookie, then you ask for another one. Your mom gives it to you. It's so good, you decide to ask for another one. But this time, Mom says 'No.' Mom remembers that the last time she ate too many cookies, her stomach hurt, or maybe that the last time you had too many sweets, you threw up. You could keep keep on pestering her and asking her, or you could trust that she knows best.
This verse tells us to trust in the Lord. Part of trusting God means believing and thinking that He is doing what is best for you because He knows better and He loves you.
There is a classic hymn called Trust and Obey. The chorus goes “Trust and Obey, for there's no other way, to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.” Choose to trust the Lord today. He loves you and will take care of you.
Dear Lord, I choose to trust you today. You made the world and you made me and you love me. Amen.
