Sensible people control their temper; they earn respect by overlooking wrongs.
First off, what do you think it means to be sensible? (Being wise, doing things of benefit)
And, what about respect? What do you think it means? (to look up to and be proud of another person or what they have done or do, to honor)
Sometimes, other people or kids can be very annoying. Maybe they keep on pouncing on you or doing things to get your attention when you want to be left alone. They are doing a 'wrong' to you.
This verse says that it if you are wise, you won't start to scream and yell at them, but you will try to ignore what they are doing. Even if you do get mad, you will talk to them about it in a calm voice. If they don't listen, then you can talk to an adult about it.
As you act this way, they or others will look up to you and respect you for 'keeping your cool.' This is not easy to do, and we need the Lord's help to control our tempers!
Dear Lord, Sometimes other people do things that make me want to get really mad. Please help me to not yell and to be patient with the ways they are 'wronging' me. In Jesus' name, Amen.
