Proverbs 17:18 (NIRV)
A person who has no sense agrees to pay what other people owe.
It isn’t wise to promise to pay other people’s bills.
Many of the Proverbs talk about money and how to use it wisely. This verse says that each person needs to take care of their own bills and money they owe. If your brother owes your parents $10, it's not wise to pay it for him. That is his responsibility. If you give them money for him this time, there's a chance he'll expect you to pay it again when he owes them even more.
There are other ways to help people out. For instance, you can encourage your brother the next time you're in the store to not buy another thing since he already owes your parents money. Learn to be in charge of what you're in charge of, and make good choices about how you spend your money.
Dear Lord, Please help me be wise in how I spend my money. Help me to encourage others and to help them in other ways besides paying their bills. In Jesus' name, Amen.
